Brookwood celebrate the Holidays early with 2 wins

This past weekend marked the end of the season prior to the holiday break and the Brookwood Bullets unwrapped their gifts early with 2 big wins. Going into both games short players, 9 players each game to be exact, the Bullets pulled out two big wins to extend their record to 6-0. With a few players coming down with sickness, the Bullets traveled to both DJ Sports on Saturday and West Island Lakers on Sunday.

Relying on strong play from all 9 players, the Bullets were able to play well together on the defensive end against DJ Sports, only allowing the team to score a total of 50 points. Missing 2 starters in Kamal Spinsby and Daniel Fisher, the Bullets played small ball with only Abdul Kamane being the only big man to play and what a performance by Abdul. He had a double-double, scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds all while battling a sore wrist. Cyrus Senior returned back from a dislocated shoulder to score 15 points in his return, taking full advantage of his speed. Reynard Robinson finished chipped in with 12 points while showing strong leadership in the last qtr, allowing the Bullets to hold on to the victory.

On Sunday, Brookwood matched up against their biggest rival in the Lakers. While some players were looking forward to this game, others were still battling their health and Brookwood was again short players. Returning to this game was starting center Daniel Fisher, who didn’t make a splash on offense, but did prove to be a force on defence. Brookwood controlled the game from start, taking big leads but also allowing Lakers to pull close. Everyone played their parts on Sunday, coming up big was again Cyrus with 15 points and Reynard with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Filling in for Kamal was Marshall Lobo who scored 11 points and Jalen Rose scored 10 points. Elijah Jones played a great game off the bench as he filled in quite a bit for Abdul, who was in foul trouble.

Brookwood goes into the holidays with a 6-0 season record and a 14-2 overall record. They open the New Year, playing January 9th, 2011 against Longueil in their second home game of the year. With most of their away games played, Brookwood will host 6 of their next 9 games.

Happy Holidays to everyone

Brookwood improves record to 4-0

On Sunday, Brookwood Bullets continued their season play by braving the snowy weather to return to St. Bruno to take on the St. Bruno Cougars. Missing a few players due to the weather and injuries, the Bullets had no problems beating the cougars and securing their 4th win of the young season, improving their record to 4-0.

Starting off a little slowly, the Bullets didn’t register their first basket till 2 mins into the 1st qtr but from then on, Brookwood didn’t look back, building a large halftime lead of 36-16. All hands played on this Sunday and helped the Bullets come out with a 73-39 win. Leading the way was Reynard Robinson with 21 points, 14 pts coming in the 2nd half. Stealing his way to 17 was Kamal Spinsby with 17 points and 4 steals. Chipping in with 15 points was Jalen Rose while Daniel Fisher was close to having a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Brookwood finishes the 1st half of the season before the holiday season with 2 games this coming weekend. First game is on Saturday, December 18, when they travel to DJ Sports for a 2:30pm tip off time. They then finish up against the West Island Lakers on Sunday the 19th at 3:15, where a handful of players look to play against their old team for the first time. Both games should be a great watch.

Brookwood loses more then just the Semi's

This past weekend, The Brookwood Bullets took their game and winning ways to the St. Bruno Tournament and were challenged with the advancement to the Juvenile AA division. Looking forward to the challenge, the boys went in with high confidence knowing they could win it all. The upgrade didn't affect the Bullets for the first two games as they won convincingly and were able to get playing time for the whole team.

In the Friday night game, Brookwood took on E.S. Polybel, from Belœil, Québec, and they more then handled them self against the competition, winning 81-53. Brookwood came out strong on defence, forcing turnovers which lead to quick and easy baskets and a large 1st quarter lead. That first quarter lead allowed the whole team to get involved and gel together. Jalen Rose continued his strong play of late with a big shooting performance, hitting 3’s and finishing with 22 points and 3 steals. Following right behind Jalen were guards Kamal Spinsby with 13 pts and Reynard Robinson with 12 pts.

With the win Friday night, Brookwood advanced in the bracket to face the home team of St. Bruno Juvenile AA. Brookwood continuing the momentum from the night before quickly established a big lead within minutes and didn’t look back. In another strong start, the starting line-up was able to determine the flow of the game, allowing everyone to get a chance to play and get opportunity to score. Abdul Kamane started with 10 points in the 1st qtr and finished with 19points and 4 steals. Marshall Lobo came out aggressive and shooting with accuracy to finish with 11 pts. Jalen Rose chipped in with 10 points as the Brookwood Bullets beat St. Bruno by a score of 84-49.

In the Semi-finals, Brookwood took on a much bigger team in J.H. Leclerc from Granby. The boys came out strong in the beginning of the game, establishing a decent lead off their defence. By the end of the 1st qtr, J.H. Leclerc had gotten back into the game with a more aggressive style which the Brookwood boys weren’t used to seeing. It was a tight fought game for most of the game, J.H. Leclerc took a decent lead and Brookwood continued to battle with the poor shooting by taking advantage of being in bonus. In the end, Brookwood couldn’t get over that hump and lost 68-55. Worse part of the loss was losing starting shooting guard Cyrus Senior to a dislocated shoulder, setting him back a few weeks. Leading the team was Kamal with 11 pts, Cyrus, Reynard and Abdul all with 8 pts.

Brookwood gets back into action at 2pm, this Sunday, December 12th at St. Bruno.

Brookwood takes on Defending Champs & stays Undefeated

The Brookwood Bullets headed into the past weekend prepared for a much anticipated match up against the defending Midget Champions from 2010, The PX Knights. This was the match up both the players and coaching staff were looking forward to, both as a regular season game but also a testing point to see how far the Brookwood midget program has come over the last 2 months.
Brookwood came out very strong on the defensive side of the game, only limiting the PX Knights to 25 half court points. The strong defense lead to many steals which ultimately lead to many fast breaks and foul shots for Brookwood. Second half proved to be more challenging for Brookwood as their defense decided to relax. 2nd half defense has been the weak point to the Brookwood team this season and will continue to work on it.

Leading Brookwood in scoring was Kamal Spinsby who took it upon himself to set the tone of the game early as he dropped 27 points. After taking a hard fall early in the game and a few more throughout the game, Reynard Robinson contributed 14 points in a strong shooting performance. Jalen Rose had 12 points as his consecutive foul shot streak ended at 14. First year forward coming back from Injury, Mamadou Keita, scored 11 points in his first game of the season. The ball was spread out evenly as 8 of the 12 players playing, got on the scoresheet.

Brookwood will take a breather from the season games as they head into the St. Bruno Tournament this coming weekend. Brookwood looks to test their skills as they are placed in the Juvenile AA category in the tournament. The first game is Friday at 7pm and the rest of the game times depend on the outcome of the first game. Schedule of game time and location of gyms are located in the Schedule section.

Brookwood starts the season 2-0!!

Brookwood kicked off their first home game of the year with a rather convincing win over Sun Youth, in their only regular season match up this season. Brookwood coming off its first loss this year in a tournament came into this game looking to bounce back into their normal rhythm. It didn't come back all at once as Brookwood started off slow once again with only glimpses of strong play in the first half. By half time, Brookwood held Sun Youth to 17 points, which is rather impressive considering Brookwood's lapses on defence. They took a 32-17 lead into halftime.

Coming out with a little more fire in the 2nd half, Brookwood maintained their presence on the offensive side, outscoring Sun Youth again in the 2nd half and defeating Sun Youth 76-55. Leading the team once again was Reynard Robinson with 19 points and 6 rebounds, 4 of which coming off of strong offensive rebounding. Daniel Fisher showed his strong inside presence by scoring 15 points and 7 rebounds but fouled out late in the 4th qtr. Kamal Spinsby also scored 15 points and had 2 steals as he continues to push the fast breaks. Jalen Rose scored 10 points and had 3 steals. Jalen went a perfect 4/4 at the foul shot line.

Brookwood finishes up a busy month of November this Sunday, Nov 28, at the defending Midget Champions, Parc X, 2:15 pm. This match up should prove to be a tough battle for two undefeated teams.

Brookwood Suffers 1st loss of the year in Express Final!!

This past weekend, the Brookwood boys took on the challenges of a last minute tournament in Saint Laurent. After a team withdrew from the Express Tournament, Brookwood was invited to replace them and Brookwood didn't disappoint. With only half of the team representing themselves in the first game Saturday morning, the team came out with an 84-66 victory over high school team Felix-Leclerc. Leading the team in scoring was Kamal Spinsby with 30 points, 9 of which came from three 3 pointers. Following right behind Kamal, was Reynard Robinson shooting his way to 24 points. Abdul Kamane cleaned up all the boards and scored 14 points in the win.

In the second game of Saturday, Brookwood Bullets took on the midget team from Jean XXIII. With more of the team there for the later game, the boys handled the game from start to finish, demolishing the Jean XXIII squad 105-34. Pressing his way to some easy lay-ups was Reynard who scored 28 points. Following right behind him was Kamal who had 22 points and Jalen Rose who had 16 points. Combined Kamal and Jalen had 16 steals. In an all around game, both Cyrus Senior, 12 points, 6 assists and 7 steals and Abdul Kamane 8 points, 9 steals and 5 blocks helped provide some much needed defensive effort.

Sunday morning marked the 3rd game of the weekend and the semi-finals for both Brookwood and The Sun Youth Hornets. Starting out strong, Brookwood took their offensive game towards the Hornets and were up big early, heading to halftime with a 48-31 lead. Starting out the 2nd half slowly, Brookwoods lead diminished to single digits. Coming through in the end with a score of 71-65, Reynard led his team with 19 points and real leadership in the finishing moments of the game. Kamal, who struggled with his short range shot, finished with 17 points and 3 steals and his fellow guard Jalen, finished with 15 points and 5 steals.

Going into the finals, Brookwood was facing another MBL opponent in the Dawson Blues. Another obstacle to overcome was the fact that Brookwood was going into the finals without their 2 starting big men, who where playing in the finals for their high school. Matching up very well with Dawson, Brookwood came out struggling with their shots not falling and missing key opportunities when they were presented. While a late run by Brookwood got the score to striking distance, fatigue and miscommunication was the downfall as Brookwood fell to Dawson 77-62. Leading the team was Kamal with 19 points & 7 steals while Jalen broke out of his shell this weekend, scoring 18 points with 4 assists and 5 steals. Chipping in was Cyrus with 9 points, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Brookwood looks to get back into the winning column this weekend, Sunday November 21, with a rematch against Sun Youth. Game is at Riverdale high school with a start time of 3:15. This is Brookwood's first home game of the year and hope to see a lot of support there cheering us on.

Brookwood is 1-0!!

The Brookwood Bullets opened up the season much like the way they won the Classic Tournament a few weeks ago, convincingly!! Going into the weekend, the Bullets were very familiar with their opponents, Page Concordia, whom they played and defeated in the Classic Tournament finals. Much like the first 2 meetings, Brookwood came out strong and ready to play. Showing a very intense press defense, the Bullets were able to get some easy baskets off turnovers and didn’t look back.
Leading the team in scoring was Reynard Robinson with 25 points, shooting 11 for 21 from the field. Following right behind Reynard was Kamal Spinsby with 14 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Big men Daniel Fisher, 12 points, & Abdul Kamane, 10 points, combined for 18 rebounds and 6 blocks. Cyrus Senior chipped in with 10 points and 4 assists, six of those points coming from the free throw line, going a perfect 6 of 6.

After what looks to be a great start to the season, Brookwood gets back to action in a couple weeks, playing against Sun Youth Hornets in their first home game of the year. Game is February 21 at 3:15 pm sharp at Riverdale High School, front gym.

Classic Tournament Recep

This past weekend, the Midget boys participated in their first game action of the season and started off in a winning way. Attending the Classic Tournament, the midget boys began their 2010-2011 season by playing the Pagé Concordia "B" team and pretty much handling their own by a 72-19 victory. The Bullets started out kinda slow but were able to get their feet moving which lead to some steals and easy baskets. Leading the Bullets in scoring was Marshall Lobo who came off the bench to spark the offense with 14pts (4/5 from 3pt range). Reynard Robinson had 13pts, Kamal Spinsby had 12 pts and Jalen Rose had 9 pts with most of their points coming off steals off an intense press. Big man Daniel Fisher produced 10pts off of good post moves and offensive rebounds.
In Game 2, Bullets played against the Pagé Concordia "A" team with the winner heading straight to the finals. The bullets came out a little flat, basically matching baskets with Pagé. The team turned it up in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to get a decent lead. 4th Qtr the team got in foul trouble and Pagé was able to cut the lead down but with Pagé committing turnovers in the finals minutes, The Bullets were able to finish the game off with a 77-69 win. Leading the Bullets with 20 pts and a strong effort on both sides of the court was Reynard Robinson. Kamal Spinsby added 17 pts himself while Cyrus Senior and Daniel Fisher chipped in with 9 pts each. Jalen Rose came off the bench to score 8 pts.

In the final game of the Classic Tournament, the Bullets were in a rematch of the previous game against Pagé Concordia "A" team. The bullets came out strong on defence and were able to limit the Pagé team to just 7pts in 1st qtr and 16pt by half time. Foul trouble in the second half allowed Pagé to get back into the game but the Bullets were able to hold off Pagé in the forth qtr. Tournament MVP Kamel Spinsby lead the team with 15 pts while Abdul Kamane and Reynard Robinson added 13pts and 10 pts respectively. Daniel Fisher had some key rebounds and added 6 pts while Cyrus had some key steals and 4pts.

The Brookwood Bullets go back to the drawing board for the next couple weeks until they resume play with their first League Game on Saturday, November 6th at Pagé Concordia
