Brookwood moves to 4-1 with win over Laval

Brookwood continued their winning ways as the hosted Laval last Sunday. Brookwood has been struggling the last few weeks, not playing their best brand of basketball but still have a winning record in that time frame, being 2-1. They came out very slow against Laval, not taking advantage of their skill and size advantage. Brookwood came out with the win in the end in a low scoring affair; final score was 53-42.

Leading the team in scoring for the second game in a row was Dylan Green who scored 12 points and had 3 rebs. Fellow big man, Wilson Kennedy had a double-double with 11pts and 14 rebounds. Taking advantage of his first start of the season was Melvin Williams, who sparked a bit of energy into the team as he scored 9 pts and had 5 steals.

Brookwood has a week off of games until December 10 when they travel to Chateuguay to play the Ravens. December 11, Brookwood will host the Monarques from St. Michele. We hope you all come to support the boys.

Brookwood splits double header weekend

Brookwood played two games this past weekend and in Saturday's game one, it
was a rematch of the league finals as Brookwood took on Parc X. Sunday,
Brookwood took on Lasalle.

Starting off with the match against Parc X, Brookwood came out to a slow start,
falling behind early 10-2 before making a big run and taking the lead 12-10. For the
most part, the game was fairly even with the teams trading baskets and turnovers.
For every qtr that Brookwood played well, they followed it up with a bad qtr.
Brookwood had too many turnovers to recover from in this game as they had 20
turnovers total. Brookwood lost their first league game of the new season by a final
score of 58-39. Leading the scorer for Brookwood was Cyrus Senior as he scored
15pts, rookie Rasheed Oliver has 11pts and Youri Wadestrandt had 8pts.

Brookwood was looking to rebound from their first loss and did so with barely a day
in between games. Brookwood took advantage of their speed and looked to work
harder then the Lasalle team, for one half, they did just that. Halftime score was
42-23 for Brookwood. 3rd qtr marked a slow qtr for the boys, but they fixed their
errors in the forth and finished the game with a 74-51 score. Cyrus was the leading
scorer again this game as he dropped 17pts, 5 steals and 4 asts. Rookie big man
Dylan Green broke out this game as he had a double-double, 12pts and 10
rebounds and fellow rookie Rasheed continued his hot pace with 9pts and 5 steals.
Youri played a strong overall game as he had 8 pts, 4 steals, 4 asts. The effort put
on by the team on Sunday was much better as 10 players scored, compared to the
5 players scoring in the Parc x game.

Brookwood has 1 practice this week as they look to continue their momentum
heading into the final stretch of games prior to the holidays. It starts this weekend at
Riverdale as Brookwood takes on Laval @ 3pm. We hope to see you all there to
support the team.

Express Tournament ends in Semi-Finals for Brookwood

Your Brookwood Bullets headed into this past weekend's Express Tournament, looking to avenge last years Finals loss against Dawson. They fell short in the semi-finals against Dawson, in what was an up and down weekend of game play.

They started their weekend off Friday night, against Henri-Bourassa. Brookwood started out very slow and were down by 10 at the end of the 1st qtr. Brookwood showed up in the 2nd qtr and narrowed the gap to 1 point by half time. They continued their momentum in the second half and eventually won the hard fought battle, 69-57. Leading the team in scoring was Youri Wadestrandt with 27pts, followed by Rasheed Oliver with 13pts. Cyrus Senior & Wilson Kennedy also chipped in with 10pts.

Their 2nd game was against the home team, Saint-Laurent Express. Brookwood controlled from the start as they faced off against young competition. Final score was 67-32 for Brookwood. Leading the scorers was Cyrus as he scored 14 pts & fellow guards Marshall Lobo had 13 pts & Youri had 12 pts.

Their final round robin game came against Nicolas-gatineau. Brookwood looked to move the ball very well in this game as many players got good scoring chances. Brookwood showed a strong 2nd half press defense as they dictated the pace of the game. Leading Brookwood to a 74-37 victory was Wilson, scoring 19 pts. Youri scored 17pts while Cyrus had 10pts and Marshall had 9pts.

Going into the Semi-Final game, it was a rematch of the previous years tournament final. No difference between the two games as Dawson showed their strength and desire to win as they set the tone with strong, aggressive defense, leaving brookwood to settle for bad shots and plenty of turnovers. Brookwood was outplayed on both sides of the court as they fell by a final score of 62-37. Leading scorers were Cyrus with 14pts, Youri with 8pts & Rasheed with 7pts.

Brookwood looks to get back into the winning column this weekend as they have a double header. 1st game is a rematch of the league finals as Brookwood takes on Parc X, at Parc X, 2pm. They return to Riverdale Sunday as they take on Lasalle at 3:15pm. Hope to have all of you come and support.

Brookwood Rolls past Lachine

Going into this past weekend, Brookwood has been growing together more as a team and it showed as they played new comers to the AAA division, Lachine Raptors. It was uncertain though how the team would react to finding out veteran player, #13 Daniel Cayer would be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a broken bone. In good spirits, Daniel should up to the game to support the team as Brookwood won in convincing fashion over the visiting Lachine team, final score was 86-37.

The game was paced by the defense first set by the starting lineup and all the players coming off the bench kept up the momentum. With the exception of the 2nd qtr, the team played very well and controlled the game from the tip. Leading the team in scoring was rookies Rasheed Mills, scoring 16 pts, 2 steals and 4 rebounds & Wilson Kennedy with 12 pts and also 4 rebounds. Marshall Lobo broke out of the gates with 11pts, most of which came off his 4 steals. He also dished out 4 assists. Cyrus Senior scored 8 pts, had 4 asts and 5 stls as his pressure on the press set the standard & Zacharry Hopkins scored 8pts coming off the bench and add 6 rebounds.

The next games for Brookwood fall this weekend at Emile-Legault in Saint-Laurent as they play in the Express Tournament, in which they lost in the finals last year. Their first match is Friday evening at 5:25pm at Emile-Legault. Saturday at 8am & 11:40am at the same location. Hope to see all the fans out for the games.

Brookwood Kicks of the new season with a Win

Coming into the new season, the Midget Brookwood team is looking for same results as the previous year, winning the Championship. With only 5 players returning, there is a brand new look to the Midget team with 10 rookies but the mentality stays the same. Of those 10 rookies, 4 of them joined the Brookwood team for the summer season, in which the team finished 3rd & 5th in 2 different tournaments and won a summer league. This was a good introduction to both the new and returning players.
With the team being made a couple weeks into tryouts, more time was now allotted to the returning & new players gelling as a team and getting into shape. Defence has been one of the main goals for this team as it has been a constant learning process. They first tested themselves in an Exhibition game against Cegep AA team Marionopolis. With Brookwood coming out strong in the first half with a 42 - 18 lead, it seemed as if the team had come together. Getting outscored in the second half was an eye opener for the newly formed team. Brookwood won the game by a 72-67 score and learned that playing a whole game will be needed. Leading the team in scoring were 3 of the returning players, Cyrus Senior who had 17 pts, Youri Wadestrandt with 15pts and Daniel Cayer with 9pts, shooting 3/5 from the three point line.

With a couple weeks away from that exhibition game, the team was able to go over some of the weak points from that game and learn from it all. With their first exhibition game this past weekend against the Chateauguay Ravens, the Brookwood Bullets came ready to play and defend their title. The game was close for the first qtr as Brookwood showed some lapses in communication on defence but pulled it together in the second qtr with a large run of 15 straight points in a few mins to end the half. Going into halftime with a 38-16 lead, Brookwood continued to maintain their composure on defence with good communication and on offense, the ball moved around as 13 of the 15 players got on the score sheet. The final score was 72-33 with team captains Youri Wadestrandt leading the way with 12pts, 5 rebs & 5 steals & Cyrus Senior with 9 pts. 3 rebs, 3 steals. Rookies Rasheed Mills add 11pts off the bench along with 2 rebs and 2 stls while rookie big men Wilson Kennedy had 8 pts, 6 of which came from his 3 offensive rebounds. Wilson finished with a total of 7 rebs while Kyle Ambris had 6 pts and also 7 rebs, 5 of which on the offensive glass.
Brookwood look to continue their quest to repeat as champs this Sunday as they play against Lachine. The game is Sunday, November 6th, at 3:15pm @ Riverdale High School. Hope to see all the supportive fans.
